Zion, Utah: The Desert in Winter

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]So, I’ve been here once before but i somehow managed to forget how spectacularly beautiful this place is…

I drove through Zion National Park this afternoon and it was absolutely and completely amazing from beginning to end. And as usual, the photos cannot capture the grandeur of this beautiful country; it’s a breathtaking experience to be among these formations. Its easy to feel humble and small in the midst of this massive and dramatic display of Nature…I think that’s one reason why I love it so very much here.

The weather has been good – I think upper 30s / low 40s this afternoon – warm enough to spend a little time drawing. I was sitting and drawing the cliffs not far from a large group of deer (pics 2 & 3) – there were at least 8 of them grazing peacefully and although they kept one eye on me they didn’t really seem bothered by my presence.

Tonight I’m spending the evening in Panguitch—a very small, very quaint little town near the entrance to Bryce Canyon. Tomorrow will be a big day – I hope to be up and out before dawn to watch the sunrise in Bryce Canyon. I had dinner at a tiny diner/theatre in town and the owner gave me some great tips on where to hike in Bryce. Later in the morning I’ll be heading for Salt Lake City, or possibly even Wyoming if I make good time.

I’m having such a blast so far!!![/vc_column_text][vc_media_grid gap=”10″ grid_id=”vc_gid:1451784150691-c3493234-7bc7-9″ include=”7667,7668,7669,7670,7671,7672,7673,7674,7675″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
